Why visit East Anglia Potato Day 2027 and pick your very own choice of varieties of Seed Potato Tubers to Grow Your Own ?? Here’s Why …..
When you visit your local shop or store to purchase your own potatoes to cook and eat at home… and the flavour of these potatoes may possibly taste a little diminished. Why you may ask..??
The possibility, and likelihood is, that these potatoes have been lifted early, when their demand is needed to be put on sale for ourselves to purchase. This may possibly be, many weeks before the potatoes have had time to reach their full developmental stage.
The primary factors are, a lower concentration of starch and reduced flavour compounds.
The primary component giving mature potatoes their characteristic texture and flavour is starch. Early in their development, potatoes contain more water and less starch. The potato plant is still in the process of moving sugars from its leaves to the tubers and converting them into starch for long-term energy storage. Because the potato tubers have accumulated less dry matter and more water, their flavour is diluted, contributing to a milder or blander taste. With a reduced flavour compound development, means the complex flavour compounds that develop through maturity are less concentrated in early-harvested potatoes. These compounds typically form later in the growing cycle.
However, be rest assured, this is where the annual East Anglia Potato Day comes to the rescue…… When you visit East Anglia Potato Day 2027 you will have the very best opportunity (within East Anglia) to view and choose your very own selections of seed potato tubers from certified scottish sourced varieties. With many heritage varieties, going back decades, with many of these varieties to choose from, are certified organic.
So why not choose your very own potato tubers to grow at home, allotment or smallholding. So experience the true flavour of your own, home grown, freshly dug, lifted tasty potatoes as they should be….!!

The East Anglia Potato Day is an annual event that has been running since 1996.
It is organised and run entirely by volunteers from three organic gardening groups:
Norfolk Organic Group
Suffolk Organic Gardeners
Ipswich Organic Gardeners, Group.
Approximately 40 different varieties of seed potatoes are available. They are sold as individual tubers, so that you can buy as many or as few as you require.
We also aim to offer as many organic varieties as possible, usually about 25% of the overall total.
